January Thaw
Sandalled white, the snowflakes flew
O'er the snow-piled Earth
To grand pipes the breezes blew
Danced in happy mirth
Balmy famed the merry drift
Bold the ardent sun
Turned to mist the dancers swift
Fled to rivers run
Cloudlets wept in friendly aid
Fast their tears-drops proud
Touched the trance of Nature's laid
'Neath her vanished shroud
Colder stilled to breathless awe
Snow the cloudlets hurled
Swept to flight the golden thaw
Gay in dances whirled
